Children and families


Skidby Mill has a number of hands-on interactive exhibits, including:

  • Activities that demonstrate how the mill works.
  • Activities to illustrate various aspects of rural life.

There is also:

  • a toy box
  • an activity table with colouring sheets
  • trails and quizzes
  • a garden
  • an open space play area in the field that includes a willow dome and tunnel and traditional play equipment
  • You can also borrow 'Explorasacks'. These are small backpacks containing materials and equipment for observing wildlife when exploring the garden and field. These may be obtained from the Mill reception in exchange for a £5 refundable deposit.

Children's trails and information sheets are also available free of charge from the mill reception and there are hand-held information sheets in both galleries and the mill tower.
