Accessing the collections

All the objects in the East Riding museum collections can be searched by going to East Riding Treasures Online.

East Riding Treasures Online (external East Riding website)

This catalogue includes some important collections such as the South Cave Weapons Cache, the Amy Johnson collection, the maritime paintings of Reuben Chappell and the paintings of Fred and Mary Elwell. Information on publications and exhibitions by the Museums Service can also be accessed through the catalogue, although at present this is not comprehensive.

In person

Viewing of specific objects in the collection can be arranged by appointment at the relevant museum site.

If you would like to view an object in person you need to know the details of the object and the collection to which it belongs. You should then contact the curator of the relevant museum using the contact details available on each site page to arrange an appointment.

The details you will need from the online database (using the link above) are:

  • The ID number (starts with “ERYMS”);
  • The museum collection, using the next part of the ID number (in brackets). The museum name should be clear, apart from BAG, which is Beverley Art Gallery and those with no brackets, which are part of the Sewerby collection.
