The collections

Goole Museum collects material relating to the life and times of people in the Goole area, including the shipping and shipbuilding industries.

Major strengths of the collections are:

  • Photographs (with some 6000 images of Goole and the surrounding area);

  • Social history (particularly costume and textiles).

Goole Museum also has two specialist collections:

  • The largest collection of work outside the National Maritime Museum by one of Britain’s best-known Pierhead Painters, Reuben Chappell;

  • Garside Collection – given to the town by the late Harold Garside, this collection consists of predominantly local history material, including photographs and documents.

All the objects in the Goole Museum collection, together with the other museum collections, can be searched by going to East Riding Treasures Online.

The Museums Service has a Collections Development policy relating to acquisition and disposal of objects in the collections, which can be accessed by going to museum standards.

Anyone wishing to donate items to Goole Museum should complete the museum loan/deposit/bequest form (opens in new window).
